Our Story

Growcer Co-founders Corey Ellis and Alida Burke

It all started in 2015…

After experiencing first-hand how the high cost of fresh, healthy food was hurting Canadians in the North, our founders made it their mission to make local, fresh produce accessible to all, no matter the climate.

With no feasible food system solutions on the market, they decided to build one themselves.

Growcer expands coast to coast

After a successful pitch on Dragon's Den, the team set its sights on bringing hydroponic vertical farming solutions to communities across Canada. We expanded beyond the North to partner with farmers, retailers, schools, nonprofits, and non-remote communities who see value in growing food locally. As our team grew, so did our customer base from coast to coast to coast. The common thread? A shared vision for the future of food.

Local, secure food for all.

Growcer now employs more than 30 staff and partners with 70+ growers across Canada to grow fresh produce year-round.

Our approach is one of empowerment and collaboration. We provide you with the tools and technologies you need, while supporting the process with expert advice. Every community is different, and consequently, every project we take on is unique and tailored to local goals and needs.

“We are relying completely on air travel for all of our food to come into the community. If there is a blizzard or something where planes were not able to land, having this kind of food production happening onsite in our community, I think, is really incredible.“

- Stephanie Puleo, Churchill Northern Studies Centre
